“I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
Eric Liddell- Christian Olympian and Missionary to China
I began running in 2011 at the age of 19. My goal was to become healthy and establish new patterns in my life. I had been struggling with drug and alcohol use for 4 years prior to that. Running for me replaced that high I used to chase from drugs and alcohol that always left me feeling sorry for myself. I was craving something different and running was an excellent outlet. All I needed to do was walk out the front door and put one foot in front of the other. I enjoyed it and still do to this day
I love long distance running. I used to joke that I ate 5k’s for breakfast. Yummmmy… In all seriousness though running makes me feel close to God. I usually run at night and when I’m out there putting one foot in front of the other mile after mile; it’s just me, the pavement and God. I believe He speaks to me while I’m out there. Dots begin to connect for me as my mind wanders and I have the freedom to think. I get inspiration for things I want to write about and share. Sometimes I’m overcome with emotion as I remember Gods goodness towards me over the years. I really do feel his pleasure when I run.
Now I have a question for you… What do you believe God made you to do? What are the activities you can be doing today that make you feel close to Him? To feel His pleasure on you. I want that for you. I encourage to do those things today. Get with God. Put down the phone, get away from the distractions and get with Him. You will be glad you did.
